Use of EU Poison Center Notification (PCN) and UFI Code

In accordance with Article 45 and Annex VIII of the Regulation (EC) No. 1272/2008 (CLP) and, chemical mixtures that are classified as hazardous to human health *and/or having physicochemical **hazards, are required to be notified to the Poison Centre. The notification requires the preparation of a file that identifies the chemical mixture and the mixture-specific UFI code is also included in the dossier. With the use of the UFI code, detailed information of the product can be accessed only by the authorities while not been visible to the actors in the supply chain. Thus, emergency health care provided through the Poison Center can be provided directly with the most accurate methods specific to the mixture while the Confidential information is protected.

The Unique Formula Identifier (UFI) consists of 16 characters, both numerical and alphabetical, and must be included on the label of the mixture. The UFI code must also be on the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) of the mixture.

How do the EU Poison Center Notification (PCN) and UFI code affect in non EU Exporters?

It is a legal obligation for importing companies located in the EU to fulfil PCN and UFI code requirements. Companies exporting from non EU to EU Member States are required to share the formula information of the mixture in order for the importer in the EU to meet the PCN and UFI code requirements. This will result in the disclosure of formula and your CBI. For this reason, companies in non EU who do not want to share the detailed contents of their products with clear percentages to their customers, need to  carry out these transactions through us and will not have to share the formulations and CBI of their products.

CRAD expert staff is at your service for UFI and PCN notifications, both to protect the product formulation information of your products and to protect and develop your market by offering products that are compliant with regulatory requirements to your EU customers.
