What is Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS/SDS)?
MSDS stands for “Material Safety Data Sheet”. Relevant legal publications no longer use the word “Material” and simply refer to it as SDS. Its Turkish equivalent is “Safety Data Sheet (SDS)”.
Explaining the harmful effects and physicochemical harmfulness of chemicals/mixtures on human health and the environment; It is a form consisting of 16 main headings and 49 sub-headings, which also explains the precautions to be taken against these harmful effects.
The person who prepares the Safety Data Sheet is a CERTIFIED Chemical Assessment Experts (KDU) should be certified by an ACCREDITED AGENCY.
It must be prepared under the conditions specified in the "Regulation on KKDİK (Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals)" and Annex-2 published in the Official Gazette No. 30105 (Repeated) on 23 June 2017 by the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change.
Documents containing the dangers and risks of relevant chemical substances and other information, which constitute an important part of the work to eliminate Occupational Health and Safety risks that may occur during the use and storage of chemicals/mixtures and are prepared to inform the user accurately and adequately, are called Material Safety Data Sheets.
It is a legal obligation to have SDSs (MSDS) in Turkish at workplaces.
What is the Purpose of the Material Safety Data Sheet?
To ensure effective control and efficient surveillance of harmful substances and mixtures placed on the market against the negative effects they may have on human health and the environment, and to prevent occupational diseases and work accidents that may occur.
